BioPla Inc. has developed prototypes of T-shirts, socks, and tobacco filters made with PLA (polylactic acid). These prototypes were designed and produced according to the following policy.
[ Design Policy for This Prototype (Common) ]
- Low-carbon, plant-derived material: We incorporated PLA as a key raw material from the outset to reflect environmental considerations.
- Design reflecting (condition-dependent) biodegradability: Materials and construction were selected with end-of-life impact reduction in mind.
- Attention to microplastic dispersion: Yarn selection, blend ratio, and structure were examined to help mitigate wear-and-scatter risks.
- Assumed compatibility with post-finishing: The material composition and construction were chosen with antibacterial/deodorant finishes and subsequent testing and mass-production studies in view.

T-Shirt (PLA blend)
- Composition (label): PLA fiber 30% / Cotton 30% / Modal 40%
- Objective: Blend ratio and fabric structure aimed to balance lightweight feel and dry touch; yarn count and knit structure were selected assuming uniform/teams’ mass use.。
- Operation: Designed to allow post-finishes such as antibacterial/deodorant; currently under evaluation.
Socks (PLA blend)
- Composition (label): Cotton 65% / PLA 35% (Men 25–27 cm)
- Objective: Blend ratio set with toe/heel wear in mind to balance comfort and durability; under evaluation.
- Operation: Considering deodorant/antibacterial specs for work/school scenarios; under evaluation.
Tobacco Filter (PLA-based)
- Objective: Ongoing evaluation to balance filtration performance and pressure drop. Formulated with flame-carryover considerations, leveraging low-carbon and (condition-dependent) biodegradable features to help reduce environmental impact from littered butts.
